Venice Beach in the ‘90s
All of these photos were shot on film in the ‘90s. Distortion techniques include cross-processing, darkroom solarization and toning, infrared film, film “pushing” to increase contrast and grain, and combinations of these. None of these distortions were generated digitally, although obviously all have now been subjected to digital translation for this presentation. When I finally went digital in the early 2000s I stopped trying to find interesting distortions because it felt too easy. Unite all Luddites Opposing Other Formats and Agendas!
